Why You Should Get to a WordCamp Near You

In “Top eight reasons why WordPress users need to get to a WordCamp,” Dave Moyer offers some solid justification for attending a WordCamp, whether you choose one near or far. Points five and four were my favorites.
5. Because free inspiration is cool! Spending a day with bloggers talking about blogging is one of the greatest ways to get past that writer’s block that we’ve all had. Even if it ends up in writing another post about how great WordCamps are, inspiration comes from being around inspiring people – and those are the kind of people you’ll find at a WordCamp.
4. You’re no longer outside of the inside scoop. At many of these events, a prominent figure on the “inside” with WordPress – be it Matt Mullenweg, Jane Wells, Joseph Scott, Andy Skelton or whoever – can be found speaking and/or socializing, carrying with them a lot of the knowledge that won’t hit the blogs till a few days after. (Plus, you know you want to have the bragging rights on that one.)
Attending a WordCamp or WordPress event means more than just learning about WordPress, but that’s often the best part. With over three years of WordPress events under my belt, traveling all around the world to meet WordPress fans, I’ve learned a valuable lesson.
WordPress users like to work with WordPress users.
The common ground shared by WordPress users breaks down a ton of barriers. People want to spend time with you. They want to share what they’ve learned, their tips, their techniques, and their enthusiasm for WordPress and blogging.
If you haven’t attended a WordPress event or WordCamp yet, you can find out what all the fuss is about by watching the WordCamp presentations on WordPress.tv, or check the schedules here, at WordCamp Central, or in the Blog Herald WordPress News.
